My Urban Landscapes semester coincided with the peak of the COVID pandemic and the closure of universities. Over the past year, while wandering around the city to take photographs, I found myself thinking more than ever about the nature and distinct character of my living environment. What particularly caught my attention was the unique form of playgrounds on the island (Qeshm).
In most parts of the world, these spaces are simply places for play and leisure. However, due to the geography I live in, we are visually confronted with an entirely different kind of space. Unlike in large cities and urban areas, the neighbors of these playgrounds here are elements of nature — deserts, beaches, and so on.
Capturing this distinctive geography through distant perspectives provided a more complete and expressive representation. In these photographs, the playgrounds of Qeshm share many general similarities, yet in the details, these similarities gradually fade away.
